Duties will include, but are not limited to:
· Assisting patrons in finding desired information or resources
· Furnishing information on library activities, facilities, and services.
· Providing reader services responsive to user needs by compiling bibliographies and reading lists.
· Organizes and conducts library tours, book talks, film programs, reading clubs, etc. to promote literacy, foster use of library resources, and/or to inform the community and various organizations of available library services.
· Providing research services, answering reference questions and explaining the use and availability of reference sources in all appropriate formats.
· Providing bibliographic instruction using print, electronic, and online resources.
· Assisting public and staff and providing formal training in the effective use of library equipment and electronic resources.
· Reviewing collections to develop or discard/discontinue as needed; assisting in the selection and evaluation of resources for delivery in the most appropriate format; may recommend the purchase or rental of library supplies/materials, taking into consideration priority needs and budget limitations.
· Determining content and arrangement of library material for displays, exhibits, and special library programs.
· Performing copy cataloging.
· Mentoring newer staff members.
· Attending seminars and meetings of professional and technical organizations to keep informed about current and emerging library services and technical developments. Composes publicity releases or program announcements for media, newsletters, or other publications; utilizes social media outlets to promote programs and events.
· Establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with community organizations, school groups, library associates, and the general public.
· Preparing clear, accurate, and informative narrative and statistical reports.
· Maintaining files and records.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited program.
- New Jersey Public Librarian's Certificate, or ability to obtain issued by Thomas Edison State University.
- Should have reference experience with adults and young adults, and interest in local History.
- Excellent communication skills with a focus all audiences age groups.
- Demonstrated customer service skills, fostering a welcoming environment for young patrons.
- Knowledge of social media platforms for effective engagement with the community.
- Proficiency in developing posters and flyers to advertise programs and attract involvement.
- Ability to select and maintain library materials for children, young adults and adults.
This is a full-time Civil Service position with full benefits which include Dental Insurance, Health Insurance and paid time off. You will be required to work in person on some evenings and Saturdays following a rotation schedule; and as needed. Library is open to the public Monday thru Saturday. Beginning salary is $60,000.00 per year.
